Wiarton - Photo Tour

Wiarton has a couple of names.

The Gateway to the Bruce Peninsula or Wiarton Willie Country

It could also be know as Old Town Ontario (No Malls Here). Wiarton has the Niagara Escarpment on three sides and Georgian Bay on the east. It is a quiet old style Ontario town.

Wiarton had a hustling port in the early 1900s. Like many other Southern Georgian Bay ports the boom time ended with the opening of the Welland Canal. Many buildings were built before the canal days. Captains often built large homes in their main port.

Also, the Wiarton area has many stone quarries. We will show large stone block buildings. These were built with local stones and are still popular in house construction and flower gardens.

Wiarton is now a tourist town. There is something for everyone with many unique shops and restaurants.

Our tour starts on the south hill. We walked to the bottom of the north hill, then turned east. At the bay we turned south until the swimming pool.
